Through those tight securities and closed doors, what are the conditions of the detainees? These are the questions left unanswered by the US Government who states that torture is inhumane and must be stopped. The media has focused on bird flu virus, high gas prices, and entertainment news, but has failed to report updates on such tortures happening to the detainees. When are we going to take part in fighting for Human rights against such incidents that makes us look like fools in our own country. How can 460 detainees be tortured since 2001 and was never in the headlines of our local newspaper or news flash on TV? Men, women and students have marched on the streets of Los Angeles in the hopes that there would be a reformed bill working toward their legal status. Others fear for their jobs that it would be jeopardized once undocumented workers have legal status in states.
There are two bills mentioned in the CNN Report which are:
"The committee's bill would create a guest-worker program and give illegal immigrants the chance to work toward legal status without first returning home."
"The House bill would fence off 700 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border and make crossing illegally a felony. It has drawn fierce opposition from Latino groups."
For further details please visit CNN.com.

Free Labor

The hard-working caregiver, timid housekeepers, quiet busboys, and the oppressed factory workers are some occupations of the undocumented workers. Do we notice them at all in our daily lives? Despite all the issues that arise regarding illegal immigrants we remain ignorant to the unfair treatments against them. Many of these undocumented workers have wished to make money to send back home with the hope to support their family for a better life. There are stories we hear or read regarding their struggles for greater opportunity.
A man working as a live-in companion/caregiver with 24hour shifts and no day-off has been robbed of the money he has honestly earned. The elderly person he was taking care of was transferred to a convalescent home. The family decided to let this man go and literally threw him out of the house with no money for the work he has done.
Three undocumented workers were employed at a restaurant and getting paid two dollars an hour. The owner decided to let them go when one of them got sick and was not able to go to work. But before letting them go he made sure they understood the situation where he will turn them all in if they try to report his restaurant.
These are the stories that happens to these undocumented workers who were hoping to get paid a little but end up not getting paid at all. No one deserves such treatment no matter what.
